The traditional 34th PIBNA Labor day tournament a yearly basketball competition has successfully ended with a very exciting and memorable finish for the FABL Maryland delegation.

The FABL Maryland delegation swept all the Youth Division.

11U – 2008 Champions, 2009 Champions, 2010 Champions. This squad was led by Coach Bing Bustamante.   The champions showed domination in the court by beating Ottawa by 20 points in the championship game.

13U – 2010 Champions led by Coach Ludwig Malate and Asst. Coach Rod Catbagan.  The champions close out on Montreal beating them by 11 points.

15U – 2010 Champions led by Coach Louie Brill, FABL Commissioner and Asst Coach David Kung.  The 15U showed tremendous intensity and experience that led them to the championship without any losses.  They beat Montreal Team A by 19 points.

Granted the 35above did not prevail in the championship, they captured third place in their division. The 5’10”U who came short for play offs experienced the excitement and intensity of the game.  Also the 45 above who fought all the play offs but shy to play in championship due to a missing key center, Greg Velasco who was accidentally injured but showed sportsmanship throughout the game.

My heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all players, parents and friends of FABL Maryland.  For the players of 11U, 13U, 15U, 5’10”, 35above, and 45 above who participated and gave 110% of their performance, I commend all of you.  For the parents who showed spirit and support to all kids and all Maryland teams, thank you very much.  Your cheers and chants which traveled across the gym boosted the morale of our players.

I would like to commend the Virginia committee and volunteers led by Commissioner Bong Guanlao and Deputy Commissioner Joe Montinola for a job well done bringing North American delegations united into one common interest.  The venue, Boo Williams gymnasium of Hampton was a superb place that accommodated all the basketball games.

I would like to congratulate our MVPs for the 11U Zach de Leon, 13U Loren Brill and 15U Louie Brill III.  All of you who made MVP demonstrated spectacular performance in the hard court.  Your ability to do more for your teams speak enough that you deserve to receive this award.  Bravo Zulu for a job well done.

The next PIBNA tournament will be held in Jacksonville, Fl. I hope to see everyone.

HOME OF THE CHAMPIONS!
