     Louie Brill

Louie Brill is the FABL Commissioner and co-founder of the Fil-Am Basketball League of Maryland.  He played for San Beda Red Lions and won two NCAA championships from 1977-78 to 1978-79.  When NCAA was dissolved in 1980, the JAYCEES sponsored an invitational league to all NCAA teams. Again, San Beda won the championship. Louie continued his basketball career by playing in MICAA under Bax jeans. As the third leading scorer of the league averaging 18 points per game, he was nominated to be a Rookie of the Year. However, MICAA was transformed to PABL. In 1981, the San Beda squad which was sponsored by Tad’s jeans to participate in the FICFAA basketball league and captured the championship. The same squad was invited to participate in the first goodwill game in Beijing Shanghai and Canton. In 1982, Louie was chosen as the RP-Youth ABC Team Captain under the tutelage of Coach Ron Jacobs. The team beat China in the final at the Araneta Coliseum. In 1984, Louie was selected to join the Philippine National team which competed in the1984 and 1985 PBA seasons as the all-amateur Northern Consolidated Cement (NCC) guest team. As one basketball fanatic had said “The only deserving players in Jacobs list, as far as Philippine basketball leaders then were concerned, were Hector Calma of Adamson, Louie Brill and Elmer Reyes of San Beda.”

During his military career, Louie played with the Admirals, NNMC Basketball Selection team which won the championship in the National Capital Region, DC league.  He was also recruited to play with the elite Marine team in Albany, Georgia winning the championship in the regional competition held in Camp Lejeune.

Louie actively participates in the annual Labor Day weekend interstate tournament and has captured numerous championships in 35 Over Division http://www.bastapinoy.com/communities-fl-0105.htm

Currently, Louie coaches his kids’ basketball team and trains Fil-Am youth to compete in yearly Inter-State Basketball Tournament.

Standing L-R: Jeff Moore (#8), Jerry Codinera (#17), Jun Tan (#6), Rey Cuenco (#19), Alfie Almario (#7), Dennis Still (#15), Jong Uichico (#9?) , Allan Caidic (#24), Louie Brill (#1)

Seating L-R: Chip Engelland (#10), Peter Aguilar (#13), Teddy Alfarero (#18), Bong Ramos (#3), Franz Pumaren (#5), Tonichi Yturri (#11), Elmer Reyes (#12), Hector Calma (#14)

Casualties from this lineup by the time 1985 came were Jong Uichico, Jun Tan, Rey Cuenco, Louie Brill, Peter Aguilar, Teddy Alfarero, and Bong Ramos.

Those who came in were Samboy Lim of Letran, Pido Jarencio of UST and Naning Valenciano of DLSU. From the players above, those who weren't able to play in the PBA as professionals (aside from the 3 naturalized players) were Jong Uichico and Louie Brill. Both played in the 1984 season where NCC placed 3rd overall in the 1984 AFC. Brill though was a surprise since he was one of the vital cogs of the NCC team and an original member of the team dating back in 1982 when they played for the 1982 RP Youth team handled by Jacobs. Other origs were Reyes, Calma, Uichico, Tan, Cuenco, Almario, Alfarero and Yturri. The 3 remaining members of that 1982 RP Youth team that are not in this team anymore are Richard Mendoza of DLSU, Derrick Pumaren of DLSU and Leo Austria of Lyceum.
